The Friends of Israel Initiative (FoII) is pleased to welcome the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, Canada’s 22nd Prime Minister, as its new Chairman. Mr. Harper succeeds José Maria Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain and founding Chairman of FoII, who has served in the role since 2010.

During his nearly 10 years as Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Harper demonstrated a clear and principled foreign policy, understanding the challenges faced by the State of Israel. He remains deeply and personally committed to promoting a lasting, peaceful, secure and prosperous future for Israel and the broader region. Mr. Harper’s expertise, vision and energy will strengthen FoII in a moment where our voice is needed more than ever.

Prime Minister Harper’s role as Chairman will be effective September 1st, 2018. Prime Minister Aznar will continue serving the FoII as Honorary Chairman. All FoII members express their gratitude to President Aznar for his leadership during his 8-year tenure as Chairman, and look forward to working closely with Mr. Harper in his new capacity.
