“Changes in the Arab World: Implications for Israel and Western Security” was the topic of discussion at a UM Global Affairs Lecture on March 1. Calling Israel an inextricable part of the West, Aznar reaffirmed his initiative’s mission, saying that its ongoing aim is to counter efforts to delegitimize Israel and the country’s right to exist.
He was joined on the panel by Alejandro Toledo, who was president of Peru from 2001 to 2006; former First Minister of Northern Ireland and Nobel Laureate Lord William David Trimble; British historian and writer Andrew Roberts; Spanish Industry Minister from 1977 to 1980 Carlos Bustelo; and George Weigel, a Catholic theologian and senior fellow of the Ethics and Public Policy Center.
